How To Buy The Best cat flea treatment

Looking to buy the best cat flea treatment? Check out our guide below and you’ll be well-placed to select the correct one for your needs.

With cat flea treatments, you can protect your pet’s health while also keeping pests at bay.

Fleas can be a nuisance no matter how clean your house or pet is.
This is partly due to the fact that fleas and their eggs may survive for up to six months without being on your cat, but it’s also due to cats’ proclivity for examining any attractive leaf pile or shed.

Fleas can cause everything from itchy skin to anaemia once they’ve taken up residence on your cat, so a good preventative approach – as well as an effective cure – is essential.
However, there are numerous cat flea treatment alternatives available, some of which are more effective than others.

How do you choose the finest flea treatment for your cat?

Is it possible to detect whether my cat has fleas?

A fine-toothed flea comb is useful for investigating, but it won’t totally get rid of them.
Check your cat’s fur for fleas or minute black specks, which could be flea faecal matter, when they’re on a clean, pale surface.
Place it on damp cotton wool to see if it’s there; it’ll disintegrate into a reddish-brown colour.
Place it inside a folded piece of paper and push down; if it’s flea faeces, it’ll contain small blood-red particles.

If you think your pet has fleas, you should also treat your home.
A room fogger or flea spray (such as Indorex) applied to bedding, floors, and skirting, followed by vigorous vacuuming, should effectively deport any unwanted houseguests.

What are the different forms of flea treatments for cats?

To maintain flea protection, all treatments must be applied on a regular basis.

Flea collars contain an insecticide that kills fleas and keeps them from returning.
Permethrin is the most common insecticide used.
While this chemical is considered safe when applied as part of a cat collar, it should never be used as a spot-on treatment.
Although these products are safe for dogs, the chemical is toxic to cats and can be fatal.

Flea collars are low-maintenance and cost-effective, lasting up to four months before they need to be replaced.
Some cats, however, have too many fleas for a collar to get rid of them all, therefore they’re best used as a prophylactic measure.
Collars can cause hair loss around the neck in certain cats, and some cats are allergic to the chemicals in them.
If this is the case, it is preferable to use a different method.

Spot-ons are topical liquid drops that are put to the back of a cat’s neck, generally beneath the collar, and either destroy or inhibit the development of flea eggs in as little as 24 hours.
They are applied monthly and come in little vials or pipettes.
Some drops are waterproof, making them ideal for rainy days, while others must be absorbed and dried before they can be used.
Spot-on flea treatments are more expensive than collars and require more frequent application, but unlike collars, they cannot be removed by a cat and are weatherproof, making them one of the most effective flea treatments available.

Oral flea medicines will kill fleas rapidly (in as little as 15 minutes), but not the eggs, if you’ve learned the technique of giving your cat pills or hiding them in food.
As a result, they’re excellent for dealing with infestations, but not for preventing them.
One tablet should suffice, but if issues persist, they should be used on a daily basis.
When compared to alternative techniques, this can soon become more expensive, so it’s best used as a temporary option.

Consult your veterinarian about long-term flea prevention with prescription-only injections that disrupt the flea lifecycle at the egg and larval stages.
Adult fleas are not affected by this treatment, so if your cat is already infested, you’ll need to use another treatment in addition.
Every six months, the shots are given.
They’re especially good for cats who have sensitive skin, flea allergic dermatitis, or recurrent infestations, and they’re safe for kittens and pregnant cats.
They’re an expensive option for flea prevention, but they’re perfect when other options have failed.

Fleas are killed on contact when insecticide sprays or foams are sprayed directly onto the roots of a cat’s fur and skin.
Some sprays are only beneficial for a few days after application, while others might endure for months, depending on the product.
Plant-based solutions exist in addition to chemical sprays, although they may require numerous applications for best efficacy.
